Mobile phone sales in Egypt drop 15% to 4.7 million devices

Mobile phone sales in Egypt fell 14.9% in the ‘January-April 2022’ period to a record 4.742 million devices, compared to 5.571 million devices year-on-year .

The report released by the Marketing Research Foundation “GFK”, indicates that the sales of mobile phones in Egypt recorded around 1.247 million devices in January, then decreased in February to around 1.219 million devices, then increased in March to reach around 1.248 million devices, only to drop once. Another increase in April reached 1,028 million devices, compared to 1.358 million devices in April 2021, a decrease of 24.3%.

Cairo governorate accounted for 45% of mobile phone sales during the period “January-April 2022” with approximately 2,139 million devices, compared to 43% during the same period in 2021, an increase of 2 %.

The Delta ranked second in terms of mobile phone sales in the first 4 months of 2022, at a rate of 26%, with the number of 1.233 million devices, compared to 30% during the same period in 2021, a decrease of 4%.

Upper Egypt came in third place in terms of mobile phone sales during the period “January-April 2022”, with a rate of 15% and a number of 711,300 devices, compared to 14% during the same period in 2021, with growth of 1%.

Alexandria registered about 426.78 thousand devices in the first 4 months of 2022, occupying the fourth place with a rate of 9%, compared to 8% during the same period of 2021, with a growth of 1%, while Canal cities ranked fifth with approximately 237,100 devices and 5% of total sales compared to 4%, an increase of 1%.

Samsung represents 33.5% of mobile sales in 4 months

The report showed that “Samsung” came in first place in mobile phone sales in the first 4 months of this year, with 1,591 million devices, or 33.5%.

Oppo’s sales amounted to approximately 1.161 million devices during the “January-April 2022” period, or 24.5% of total mobile phone sales in Egypt.

“Redmi” ranked third in terms of mobile phone sales in the first 4 months of 2022, with 547,000 devices, or 11.5% of the total, followed by “Realme” with 482,000 devices, or 10, 2%.

Infinix’s sales reached approximately 321,000 devices, accounting for 6.8% of total mobile phone sales during the “January-April 2022” period.

“Apple” sold around 128,000 devices or 2.7%, while

Xiaomi”Mi” sales amounted to around 39,000 devices in the first 4 months of 2022, accounting for 0.8% of total mobile phone sales in Egypt, and Apple’s sales of around 128,000 devices, or 2.7%.
